SISTERHOOD

Temple Beth Sholom Sisterhood is an active community of women that fosters educational, social, and spiritual growth for the temple as well as the reform Jewish community. Over the years, members have formed friendships, and offered each other support, while uniting for laughter, learning, and leadership.

Every year, the Sisterhood offers adult education programs in the form of classes and lectures. Speakers such as interior decorators, doctors, and realtors have informed the congregation about topics of interest. This past year, our members took a knitting class in which we made hats for our soldiers in Iraq, we participated in a series of jewelry classes, with one class for religious school students and their mothers, and we learned how to cook like gourmet chefs. Our fundraisers and events have been both rewarding and fun. Every year, we sell candy for Passover and make chocolate candies for Hanukkah. Sisterhood also works to support breast cancer research by selling handmade chocolate roses.

Sisterhood runs the temple Judaica shop, helping our congregants with all of their ritual, special gift, and Bar and Bat Mitzvah needs. At the end of the year we celebrate with our annual Sisterhood dinner.

Finally, the opportunities to perform mitzvoth in Sisterhood are numerous. We take care of certain needs within the temple by providing funds to help such as purchase a new wheelchair lift for the lobby, renovating the religious school, decorating the bima for holidays. We support our temple youth group; provide scholarships for children to go to camp, and give gifts to every Bar and Bat Mitzvah child. We also donate to the YES fund, the matching fund and other temple initiatives. There is a place in sisterhood for every woman who would like to join us. You will meet so many welcoming faces and find your days more rewarding as you serve so many worthy causes.
