Mission Statement
Who We Are

Temple Beth Sholom is an inclusive Reform Congregation dedicated to enrichment through sacred relationships, meaningful ritual, transformative social action, and experiential education.

● We have a young, energetic, and inspirational Clergy. Rabbi Brian Leiken & Cantor Anna Zhar create meaningful connections with all members of our congregation both young and mature.

● We have the largest religious school in the county with over 200 children enrolled grades K-12.

● We have a long-standing tradition of having one of the most exemplary nursery school programs in the county for over 30 years. We have expanded our program and are able to offer additional options to enhance our curriculum: sports, yoga, and cooking to name a few.

● We have over 34 new families who joined TBS between April of 2015 and April of 2016.

● We own 5 acres of land on New Hempstead Road in the heart of Rockland County. We own our building and land with no existing debt (mortgage free).

● We have a Senior Youth Group grades, 9-12 (BSTYG), which continues to keep our youth involved and engaged. They participate in NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) conclaves, conventions and send a delegation to the RAC (Religious Action Center) in Washington DC to observe, learn and participate in the legislative process first hand.

● We have two of our congregants who serve on the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) National Board.

● We have a committed Torah Study Group who come every Saturday morning to be inspired by Rabbi Leiken who delves into the meaning of the weekly parashah and analyzes its relevance in modern society.

● We have a long-standing tradition of involving ourselves with Tikkun Olam (healing of the world). We have many examples of how we, as a TBS community, work towards this goal:

o We assist People to People of Rockland with our Yom Kippur Food Drive.

o We assist the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization by preparing, with the help of our religious school students, Thanksgiving

meals for 10 families. We do this through our Thanksgiving Food Drive.

o We prepare and provide Christmas meals, home baked cookies, and new wrapped Christmas gifts for the Center for Safety

            and Change of Rockland.

o We have participated in the New Pajama Book Program.

o We participate in the Helping Hands of Rockland Program through Safe Haven, which helps to provide food and overnight

shelter for homeless men and women.

o Our nursery school runs a TBS Toy Drive & Coat Drive to benefit People to People of Rockland County.

● We have a year round active Adult Choir who record their own music and participate in our services and community wide events.

● We have an active Children’s Choir who are engaged throughout the academic year by participating in various events including Special People Shabbats, Purim Shpiel and special holidays services/programs.

● We host Special People Shabbats, which are intended to engage impaired adults who reside in our county. These services also bring meaning to our congregants who participate as we celebrate all Jewish holidays together as a larger caring community of individuals both young and mature.

● We have an AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) delegation from our Temple that have participated in meaningful discussions in Washington D.C. regarding the need for our continued and unwavering support of the State of Israel.

● We have participated in an Israeli Exchange Program. Israeli youth aged 13-18 years come to our families to be hosted, as we send 12 of our own Post-B’nei Mitzvah students to Israel for an  extraordinary experience.
